Dutch Oven Cooking 101

Where to purchase, the benefits and recipes.

A perk of working from home is being able to put a pre-prepped meal in the oven in between meetings to feed the hungry bears in your home at the end of the day. A dutch oven simplifies that and elevates what most would attempt as a crockpot meal.

After purchasing my dutch oven, I did a lot of research on everything I should be aware of before cooking with my latest kitchen staple and I'm glad I did!

Dutch Oven Cooking:

Dutch ovens are incredibly versatile and perfect for baking, roasting, browning, searing, broiling, and deep-frying -- you name it! They are great for both the stovetop and oven which makes them ideal for braising meat; cooking soups, stews, and sauces; boiling water for pasta; frying chicken; and even baking bread.

Because they retain and distribute heat evenly, they optimal for searing meat at high heat and maintaining low-and-slow temperatures for a long period of time.

An enamel-coated dutch oven is the way to go -- they are much easier to clean and non-reactive, preventing iron from releasing into your yummy meal. Quality materials and craftsmanship are reason for the high price tag for the premium brands. But given how versatile they are -- they are worth the investment!
