Easter 2020 - Quarantined Quality Time

COVID-19 did not stop the Easter Bunny from hopping by!

Easter marked the 5th weekend our family had been in locked down, from first the flu then COVID-19 quarantine. Two of those five weekends had been spent celebrating birthdays; Nathan's 2nd, 'Little Blue Truck' themed birthday followed by Grant's 4th 'Construction Worker' themed celebration. With limited time being spent with loved ones thanks to social distancing, there had already been LOTS of family togetherness doing the things the boys most enjoy.

So I admit, when Easter rolled around, I was running out of ideas and had not really put much thought into the how I could make the day special for our family. I mean, I did not even fetch the Easter decorations out of the attic or place my Target pick-up order for basket fillers until the day before. With online options limited, I got my hands on what I could and recycled former basket stuffers, praying Grant would not recall them from the years before.

Much to my delight, he did not, and the boys were thrilled with the Target Bulleye's Playground gadgets. If you don't know what that is, it's the affordable ($1 - $10ish) and AWESOME section up front at Target. Moms -- if you are not using goodies from that section as bribery for your kids to cooperate and keep their hands to themselves while you attempt to shop your happy place, you are doing it all wrong! Tip -- avoid the toy balls -- you will simply be chasing them all over Target. Take it from me as I learned this the hard way.

OK, back to Easter. With basket goodies checked off my list, I was on the hunt for other fun ideas the kids would enjoy and landed on bunny pancakes thanks to inspiration from blogger, Christine Andrew - Hello Fashion Blog. My first attempt turned out super cute BUT I did manage to spill pancake batter all over the counter. It engulfed my iPhone, ran down my cabinets and onto the floor. Super.

Despite the unfortunate mess, the bunny pancakes were as cute as they were tasty and a hit with the boys! Pancake trick - add vanilla extract to your basic mix. #YUM Also, I found using a batter dispenser super helpful when making pancakes of different sizes to bring the design together. I've only ever used my dispenser for cupcakes and was pumped to find another use.

Thankfully it was a sunny Easter weekend so an egg hunt outside in our yard was a no brainer way to burn some kiddo energy. After all nearly 100 eggs I hid the night before by the light of my iPhone, were collected and counted, Grant made it clear he had been hoping for loads of candy inside the colorful plastic eggs. Sugar? Yeah, that is exactly what we need while pent up in our house. Together. Twenty-four-seven. Not so much bud - take your stickers and toy rubber toys complements of Bullseye and be grateful.

After the sugarless egg hunt, we spent the morning outside in our yard followed by riding bikes in our neighborhood. The sunny warm weather, kissed by a light breeze was inviting and good for the soul

With the real meaning of Easter in mind, Kris shared a kid-friendly cartoon version of Jesus's story of the cross and his resurrection with Grant -- Saddleback Kids - The Story of Easter - Jesus's Sacrifice. Lots of questions followed and we did our best to answer in a manor we thought he could understand.

While Easter 2020 was unlike any other, it was a good day spent together, as a family.
